[Finding himself in a new world with no explanation is literally Sonic's Tuesday. It feels as if travelling as he does, he often stumbles into things he probably shouldn't, but...it's the free spirit in him that usually causes him to embrace random isekai scenarios rather than shy away from them. Teyvat has been kind of a mixed bag so far; he really vibed with Mondstadt (except for all the cops, even if they are knights) and Liyue had its charms...

He probably decided trying to get into Inazuma was more trouble than it was worth.

But he hasn't really done much travel when it comes to Sumeru because you see...he stumbled upon the Sanctuary in Surasthana pretty early on after arriving, found an imprisoned, lonely baby and decided this is his priority. He'll get back to his travels once he's satisfied he's interfered enough around here, but he was content to befriend Nahida at first.

At first.

He won't be stopped from visiting and today is no exception; no, today he can't be stopped because it's the most important day there is to come and see her. Sonic makes his way to the Sanctuary, makes his way into the sanctuary and thennnnn...]

Yoohoo! Nahida! Come out, come out wherever you are!

[He's got his hands behind his back, carrying a small, mysterious box...]

[ so many descenders coming to teyvat lately... obviously this needs more extensive research, but it's not as if nahida has a Lot to do in the sanctuary anyway, even now when things have calmed down in sumeru. that being said, she has been rather busy inside her gilded cage anyway that she hasn't had the time to celebrate one of the most important days of her life--

but it is a good thing someone is here to remind her of that. ]

Hm? [ she opens her eyes. oh, right. he can't hear her from here, so she's just going to communicate with him through telepathy for a hot second. ]

Oh, Sonic! What brings you here?

Oh, just looking for a friend. About yay high, white hair, green eyes...really big on new and exciting things.

[Once you become Sonic's friend, it's inevitable he'll be a bit of a smartass at times..

But it's only ever in jest.]

[Somehow, Childe hadn't expected "rainforest" to be quite so literal. No sooner had their little party- himself, the traveler and perhaps the tiniest girl he's seen in his life- begun their expedition into Apam Woods, the heavens had opened and they were forced to find shelter. The plants here are as oversized as the trees and the undergrowth along the river, heavy with the scent of rich soil and flowers he couldn't even begin to name, provides ample cover.

Admittedly, he likes it far more than the scorching heat of the desert; though he's soaked to the bone, his ego has been saved the blow of passing out face-first in the sands. His freckled face is still sunburnt, the bridge of his nose reddened where even the most carefully wrapped scarf couldn't protect it. As he watches the downpour, he has to fight the urge to scratch at the skin where it's starting to peel.

The biggest mystery right now, however, is the aforementioned tiny companion- Nahida, as he's come to learn, though that's the extent of it. With the traveler- as ever, indifferent to the weather- out looking for mushrooms, the two of them have been left to wait out the storm. But, as curious as he is about her and the extraordinary abilities she's demonstrated so far, there's something more important to consider right now.]

[ the thing about being granted freedom again after spending centuries trapped in a gilded cage is that most people take the little things in the wild for granted. the dendro archon can only glean so much information from the akasha, and reading about it and experiencing for yourself are two entirely different things.

so here she was, accompanying the traveler and their friend along this part of the rainforest. isn't that such a privilege? but while nahida is greatly acquainted with the traveler by now, her interest is more piqued by childe than anything else. not just because of his companionship w her first sage, but because of something else. she is the god of wisdom, after all, and it's just in her nature to be curious.

for now though, she's just watching a couple of wild sumpter beasts seeking shelter nearby, tilting her head at childe when he pipes up. ]

It should be fine, if you can find dry firewood. Damp ones tend to be really smokey when lit up, and it'll attract a lot of monsters our way.

[Dry firewood? It's so humid that he can't imagine such a thing exists here even when it isn't raining.]

That's true.

[Normally, he might not object to attracting monsters; he's been on his best behaviour since arriving in Sumeru and he's itching for a good fight. That can come later, though. For now, he's content to exercise some patience and wait for the traveler to return without causing a scene.

Instead, he ducks further under cover and sits himself down on a particularly robust looking mushroom.

... not one of the spring-loaded or poisonous ones, thank goodness.]

You're quite the little ranger. [He smiles.] Everyone here seems so in sync with the land- it's wonderful to see.

Mhm. With the Withering finally coming to a halt, the forest is finally regaining some of its vitality. But that doesn't mean we can always leave everything to the forest rangers -- everyone has to do their part, even mere passersby.

[ she really is quite the ranger. though being one and vicariously living through other people's eyes with the akasha are two different things entirely.

and anyway, childe is fortunate that he's talking to the dendro archon herself. nahida can just turn around and find a bundle of dry firewood nearby, as if it's lying there all along and not because she manifested it or anything. ]

Here. You can make do with these. [ she made them too big though, and she may or may not be struggling in lifting them with her bitty hands. help? ]
